MI vs LSG Team Preview
Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians have staged one of the most impressive comebacks this season. After losing their first two matches, their victory against KKR provided a much-needed boost. Though they suffered another loss afterward, they’ve now stabilized remarkably, winning four consecutive matches.
Rohit Sharma’s return to form has been a major boost for the team, scoring back-to-back fifties while capitalizing on the powerplay with an aggressive approach. The middle and lower order, already strong, have further solidified Mumbai’s batting.
In the bowling department, Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar have been exceptional in the powerplay, dismantling SRH’s top order and reducing them to 13/4. Jasprit Bumrah, true to his reputation, has stifled runs and built pressure on batters. Mitchell Santner and Hardik Pandya have also impressed; though Santner didn’t take wickets, his economical spell (just 19 runs in 4 overs) was crucial.
Mumbai has yet to win against LSG at home, having lost all three previous encounters at Wankhede. However, given their current form across all departments, this is their best chance to finally break the losing streak against LSG in Mumbai.
Lucknow Super Giants
As soon as Lucknow Super Giants entered the top four of the points table, one loss knocked them out. The same scenario repeated last night – while LSG was relaxing with hopes of securing a top-two position, Delhi Capitals defeated them by 8 wickets, pushing LSG out of the top four again. This loss not only cost them crucial points but also dragged their net run rate into negative territory.
As mentioned in our previous blog, LSG is heavily dependent on their openers (Marsh and Makram) and their number three batter Nicholas Pooran. The squad lacks other reliable batters who can maintain the momentum set by the top order. Another tactical error was their mishandling of Abdul Samad’s batting position in the last match against Delhi. Samad, who excels in death overs, was promoted to number four – a move that backfired. Although Badoni and Miller showed some resistance, their efforts came too late.
Rishabh Pant is enduring the worst IPL season of his career. His decision to attempt a reverse scoop off the very first ball, even against a yorker, reflects his poor form. His captaincy is equally concerning – during a DRS review for an LBW appeal by Rathi, Pant (as wicketkeeper) should have known better about the ball’s impact and pitching. Instead, he relied on overconfidence and wasted the review when the ball was clearly missing the stumps. All of LSG’s wins have come solely due to Pooran, Marsh, and Makram’s performances – Pant’s contribution as both player and captain has been negligible.
To make matters worse, LSG’s out-of-form bowlers are underperforming, with only Mayank Yadav capable of making an impact. However, his return date remains uncertain – possibly even after the IPL season concludes. Facing an in-form MI in their upcoming match, LSG will need to triple or quadruple their efforts to compete.

Pitch and Weather Conditions
The Wankhede Stadium pitch will favor batters. With its red soil and short boundaries, expect a high-scoring match. The toss-winning team will likely opt to bowl first due to the chance of dew in the second innings, meaning both teams could easily rack up over 200 runs.
According to the weather department, the temperature will start at 33°C during the match and drop to 30°C by the end. Humidity is expected to range between 60% and 64% during the game. The sky will stay clear, with almost no chance of rain.
