IPL 2025: Which 4 Teams will make it to the Playoffs?

The IPL is all set to kick off tomorrow, March 22, 2025. Yesterday, the captains for the 2025 season gathered in front of the Gateway of India in Mumbai, posed for a photoshoot, shared their thoughts, and sparked excitement among fans, igniting debates about who will dominate this year. Five franchises, MI, CSK, SRH, RR, and GT, retained their previous captains; the other five, KKR, PBKS, DC, LSG, and RCB, appointed new ones. This season promises extra intrigue with new rules: a second new ball in the second innings to counter dew and the use of saliva on the ball. These changes favour bowlers, shifting the balance from last year’s high-scoring matches to a bowler-dominated game this time.
Based on this, our CricketBetPro expert analyzed each team’s squad, consulted senior former IPL players, and crafted playoff predictions. We want to emphasise again that these predictions aren’t mere guesses; they’re data-driven, recommended by cricket experts, and verified by ex-IPL players. Key Factors to Consider Before Making Predictions
Several crucial aspects will shape IPL 2025, complicating playoff predictions even further:
Pitch Conditions – Only three venues; Chennai, Lucknow, and Kolkata- favor spinners over pacers, giving teams with top spinners a clear advantage. CSK boasts world-class spinners in their squad, outshining others, and will play half their matches in Chennai, boosting their playoff chances significantly.
Former IPL Players’ Analysis – After crafting these predictions, we met with former IPL players and discussed our insights on players, teams, and conditions. The three-day session, with each day spanning 5-6 hours, involved analysing every IPL match in detail. Some of these ex-players competed alongside stars like Kohli, Rohit, Rahane, Hardik, and Pant, offering insider knowledge of their game plans, which sharpened our predictions.
Player Fitness & Availability – We also evaluated players’ fitness, potential injuries, their impact on team combinations, and how the substitute rule might apply. These factors heavily influenced the predictions below.

1. Aryaman Raman (SRH,GT, KKR and DC)
SRH– Sunrisers Hyderabad’s strength lies in their trophy-winning captain, who brings vast experience of playing in Indian conditions and knows how to adapt to any situation. No other team boasts an explosive top-order batting lineup like Head, Abhishek, and Ishan, though their middle order lacks depth; however, their strong bowling unit, featuring Shami and Cummins, will compensate for this.
GT- Gujarat Titans rely heavily on their support staff, with Nehra instilling a never-give-up attitude until the last ball and boosting players’ confidence. Their batting unit also shines, led by captain Shubman Gill, an explosive batter with the highest strike rate in the powerplay;consider him a top pick for the Orange Cap if you’re betting. With Siraj, Rashid, and Rabada, GT’s bowling attack proves equally lethal.
KKR- KKR, the defending champions, stand as strong playoff contenders under their new captain, Ajinkya Rahane, who leverages his extensive domestic cricket experience to deploy players effectively in crucial moments. One of our expert predictors, who played alongside Ajinkya, praises his quick run-scoring ability, setting him apart from others; if the captain steps up and makes bold moves, his skills could shine through. With a deep batting lineup and a lethal mix of pace and spin, KKR emerges as a formidable force.
DC- Delhi Capitals may not generate as much hype as other teams, but mark my words; this squad has the potential to reach the playoffs and the final too. Axar Patel, recently appointed captain despite senior players like KL Rahul being available, reflects the management and coaching staff’s bold strategy, hinting at an emerging leadership style for this season. With a pace attack led by Starc and a hungry top and middle-order batting lineup, every department brims with a drive to win.
2. Prashant (CSK, KKR, MI, and RCB)
CSK – Chennai Super Kings; undoubtedly ranks as a strong playoff contender, having featured in the playoffs 12 out of 15 times and reached 10 finals, more than any other team, boasting two unbreakable records. Ignoring this team for the playoffs feels a bit unfair. Ruturaj Gaikwad, a young and fiery captain, seized the opportunity to lead the team last year, stepping into the shoes of the legendary MS Dhoni. The squad looks so balanced that selecting the playing XI, including impact and substitute players, becomes a breeze. I closely observed that this team maintains strong backup players for every position, giving CSK a clear edge to qualify for the playoffs.
KKR – On KKR, I agree entirely with Aryaman’s view about their long and deep batting lineup from top to bottom; I’d like to add that this team fields exceptional players like Ramandeep, Rinku, and Raghuvanshi, while the captain himself adapts with remarkable flexibility;qualities I didn’t spot in any other team. From a bowling perspective, KKR may lack pace in their attack, but no one rivals their spin duo of Narine and Varun.
MI – In the past two seasons, MI struggled with pace bowling, but after the mega auction, they bolstered this department by acquiring Trent Boult and retaining Bumrah and Hardik. Although Bumrah may miss this season due to injury, Trent Boult, who holds the record for the most wickets in the powerplay, ensures MI fans won’t feel Bumrah’s absence. Moreover, no team matches Mumbai’s robust middle-order batting, led by Surya and Tilak.
RCB – Royal Challengers Bengluru ranks third behind CSK and MI in playoff appearances, qualifying 9 times. Analysing the squad reveals a strong batting lineup from the top order to the middle and lower order, and their pace attack, featuring Hazlewood, Bhuvi, and Dayal, surprises me a lot. The team may lack quality full-time spinners for spin-friendly tracks and could struggle in Chennai and Lucknow, but half their matches unfold in Bengaluru on a flat, small track. With an explosive lower order boasting Livingstone and Shepherd, I wouldn’t be shocked if RCB sets a milestone by scoring 300 runs in an IPL match.
3. Sufiyan (MI,CSK,KKR,and SRH)
MI – Mumbai Indians;I agree with all the points Prashant raised; no doubt, they boast the strongest middle order among all teams. Stretching his remarks further, I’d like to add that MI’s opening combination looks incredible and provides additional flexibility. If they chase a high score on a flat track with small boundaries, they may opt for Rohit and Jack, but if they seek a stable start on spin-friendly pitches, they choose Rohit and Padikkal.
CSK – Chennai Super Kings;I could list plenty of reasons for CSK’s playoff qualification, but sticking to facts, the team fields a bunch of match-winners. As Prashant noted above, each player enjoys strong backup, and this ability sets CSK apart from the rest.
KKR – Kolkata Knight Riders; My thoughts on KKR may align with the experts above, but I harbor doubts about the form of KKR’s players. They rely on Rinku, who completely flopped last year, and the same happened with Gurbaz; Quinton de Kock also returns after a long break. If these players regain their form, all my doubts will vanish. I say this not just as a fan but also as a cricket expert.
SRH – In my opinion, which draws inspiration from discussions and analysis with a former IPL player, this team will not only qualify for the playoffs but also reach the finals like last year; they could clinch their second title. I’d like to add one more thing: I disagree with Prashant, and Aryaman remarked above that SRH lacks strength in the middle order like last year. Their middle order starts with the explosive Klaasen and extends to Nitish Kumar Reddy; the form may pose an issue, but on paper, both look strong enough.
4. Abhay (MI, CSK, SRH, and RCB)
MI- I strongly agree with Aryaman, Prashant, and Sufiyan about this team. I initially doubted whether Trent Boult could fill the gap left by Bumrah’s exclusion, so I discussed this with our panel of former IPL players. They confidently assured me that Boult can step up, as both share the same ability to swing the ball and take wickets in the powerplay. The new rule providing bowlers with a second new ball in the second innings, along with the option to apply saliva, favors them further. If everything aligns and Bumrah recovers from his injury, witnessing a Boult-Bumrah combo will prove exciting.
CSK – Though I’m a huge fan of Chennai, I set aside bias and confidently state that CSK ranks among the strongest squads, aligning with the experts above.
SRH – Sunrisers Hyderabad—After MI and CSK, I rate SRH highly based on the players’ form and Pat Cummins’ quality leadership. Their top order features Head, Abhishek, and Ishan, while the middle order boasts Klaasen and Nitish; their power-packed pace attack includes Shami, Cummins, and Harshal. With such formidable players, reaching the playoffs may not challenge them. I fully agree with Sufiyan’s point and appreciate his insight.
RCB – On Royal Challengers Bengaluru, my opinion on RCB differs from the experts, who focus solely on the squad while overlooking Rajat Patidar’s captaincy. Patidar lacks prior captaincy experience, and leading a team with players of vast international exposure raises questions about how he’ll handle the pressure and whether it will impact his performance; this concerns me deeply. I discussed this with our panel of former IPL players, who cited Shreyas Iyer’s example and cleared my doubts. RCB undeniably fields a power-packed team with Salt, Kohli, Liam, and Shepherd, boasting more match-winners than others, which justifies their playoff qualification.
