Harry Brook Withdraws from IPL 2025, Faces Possible Two-Year Ban

England cricketer Harry Brook withdraws from IPL, as shown in a news update."

In a major blow to the Delhi Capitals (DC), England’s star all-rounder Harry Brook has pulled out of the upcoming IPL 2025 season. This marks the second consecutive year Brook has withdrawn from the tournament, and both times, it has been from the Delhi Capitals.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) communicated Brook’s decision to the BCCI last week, and the information was relayed to the DC management. The Capitals had invested heavily in Brook, spending INR 6.25 crores to acquire him during the 2023 auction.

Brook’s decision to withdraw could now result in a two-year suspension, as per the IPL’s updated regulations. These rules, introduced before the 2025 auction, state that any overseas player who backs out after being selected at the auction will face a two-season ban from the IPL and its auctions.

The IPL’s updated rules offer a bit of relaxation. If a cricketer has a genuine medical concern verified by their authorised doctor, they won’t have to face a two-year ban. This rule ensures fairness while still holding cricketers accountable for pulling out at the last moment.

The rule was implemented after all 10 IPL teams expressed frustration over overseas players frequently withdrawing at the last moment. To address this, the league decided to tighten its policies. While we’re still waiting for an official statement from the IPL Governing Council about Brook’s potential ban, the situation has become a hot topic among fans and cricket experts.

Brook’s absence has left the Delhi Capitals in a tough spot as they approach IPL 2025. The team management will now need to brainstorm their game plan and find a perfect replacement for the English explosive batter. DC fans and the team’s management will be keeping a close watch on how DC handles the team without Brook.
